Why update themes & plugins?

Why Update WordPress, Plugins And Themes?

It is crucial to always update your WordPress website, plugins, and themes to their latest versions. Each update aims to improve the performance of your site. Whenever you see an update notification on your Dashboard, you should install the latest version.

Why Update WordPress Core, Themes, And Plugins To The Latest Versions?

Bug Fixes ~  Developers try to ensure that the WordPress release, Themes, and Plugins are free from any bugs and run tests to minimise those bugs. However, many are not caught and become a part of the final release. These make your website vulnerable to attacks by hackers. Many minor updates are released to fix these issues, without necessarily providing new features (just fixes). Compatibility ~ To avoid compatibility issues, you must update your WordPress core to the latest version along with themes and plugins. In case some of your plugins are not following the best practices, they can break your website with the WordPress update. It is best to avoid such plugins as they make your site vulnerable to attacks and use plugins published by reputable publishers only. Performance ~ Developers consistently work hard with an aim to improve the performance of your website and make it faster. Every release comes with performance enhancement features for your site. Security ~ WordPress powers a large number of websites across the world. As it is the most popular CMS (Content Management System), it is the most attractive target for hackers and malware distributors. To keep your website secure and in good health, updates are critical. Hackers can search for the sites running on the older versions and plugins installed with outdated versions. You must install themes and plugins only from the most reliable sources. Make sure that the developers provide frequent updates and regularly fix the issues. It is best to avoid installing plugins that have not been updated for a long time. From the security point of view, updates are indispensable. That’s why you must keep your WordPress Core, Themes and Plugins installed to the latest versions. It is important to backup your website before updating your WordPress version, Themes and  plugins. In case your site breaks due to a compatibility issue or some other reason, you can restore it. Latest Features ~  Latest versions of themes and plugins bring new features for you to use. Latest features make the plugins or themes more useful and help in improving the overall performance of your website. Support ~ If you try contacting the support team of your Theme or Plugin supplier, you must update it to the latest version before expecting any help. Most common issues are fixed with the latest releases. That’s why the support team will first ask you to update your plugin to the latest version before they try to help you. To maintain good health of your website and keep the performance of your site optimum, you must update all the installed plugins and themes to the latest versions. You should not postpone the upgrade process unnecessarily as the websites with the older versions of plugins and themes are more susceptible to the attacks by hackers. It is a best practice to check for the updates of your site, themes and plugins at least once a month, or arrange for automatic updates.

Geotagging your images for SEO

Geotagging images hasn’t disappeared from Local SEO

Geotagging Hasn’t Disappeared from Local SEO Strategy

Geotagging, also known as geocoding, is the addition of a physical location to photos and videos in the form of metadata. When you geotag your media, you are able to include its geographical location like the state or city, or you can add the specific location that the media was geotagged using longitudinal and latitudinal coordinates. Geotagging doesn’t need to be difficult, most applications have the option of geotagging whatever media that you are uploading. Any person who has a device that can access the Internet is able to see the location pinned. Google Maps, Yahoo Maps and Microsoft Virtual Earth, as well as other phone applications, are able to detect the location of photos or videos uploaded that are geotagged. For local businesses and companies, geotagging is essential as it helps your potential clients to find your business easily. For example, anyone searching for IT companies in the UK is able to get a variety of those as listed on the Internet if you have Geotagging enabled for your business location. Another reason why Geotagging is important for your local SEO strategy is because images usually appear at the top of search results. Geotagging your images would ensure that they appear at the top of search engine results page. Finally, Geotagging is very effective when it comes to social networking — which is a perfect opportunity to improve the credibility of your business. Take for instance FourSquare or Facebook check in. You are able to get the best recommendations of places that are geotagged.

Manual Geotagging

Step-by- Step Phone Guide: Access the geotagging tool settings in your phone and follow the step by step guide that is provided there (when you device has that option). GPS-Enabled Camera: For food, fashion, travel and other bloggers — as well as for photographers who travel around the globe — a GPS-enabled camera can be a great way to ensure that whatever video or photo you take has its coordinates and other location information automatically captured. Geotagging can be an effective way to bring you local audience in a short span of time in conjunction with other strategies put in place. Although there can potentially be some challenges, geotagging is not about to disappear any time soon from your local SEO strategy. Have you tried geotagging before? Share with us your experience and recommend any good applications or devices, we love to hear your experiences. Let us help you with LOCAL SEO and do the geo-tagging for you in our SEO KICKSTARTER PACKAGES

Voice based search and SEO

Voice Search and SEO

If you have been undermining the significance of voice search so far then the accompanying figures are important for you to note. According to an examination directed by Northstar, 55% of the teens utilize voice search on a regular basis and 56% of adults actually enjoy using voice-based search. It is not only fun but convenient as well It makes you feel tech-savvy (that specifically is one of the “proven reasons” why adults love it) and it’s a major help when you’re multi-tasking or on the go. Come 2017 and the internet audience is only going to witness a surge in the use of this particular form of search. Internet Trends have documented details of ways in which this kind of search has actually expanded over the last 8 years. Today, Google voice-based searches, as per studies, have increased by more than 35 fold from the year 2008. Here’s what a company offering Search Engine optimisation services should remember.

Why you shouldn’t exclude Voice Optimisation from your marketing strategies

If you want to stay ahead of the others in SE0 curve then make sure you’re acquainting yourself with the growing significance of this particular form of search in SEO. The optimization techniques tailored for Voice Search (VS) are definitely not the same as that of techniques suited for typed search. For instance, if someone in Chandni Chowk market in Delhi is looking for recommended fast food restaurants then they would type “Restaurants in Chandni Chowk”. On the other hand, if they’re resorting to voice search then he would just say “Where is the nearest restaurant?” The steady growth of Voice, it won’t be wrong to say, is the immediate impact of the unprecedented rise of the mobile search. There is a simple equation to be taken in view here. The number of people owning a smartphone has increased drastically over the last few years. Mobile search, as such, has also intensified as well. This form of search, it is regarded, is going to facilitate local search in a major way. Voice searches are three times more likely to be local. Users, in general, are more likely to resort to location-enabled search as far as voice queries are concerned. A very simple but efficient way to comprehend the scope of voice search would be to try it out yourself. Try out the questions that you think would actually bring users to your website. You can see where the keyword ranks compared to the top. Take this result into account and zero in on an effective SE0 strategy.

Voice based search in future: A glimpse

Voice, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to claim, will actually emerge at the forefront of Search Engine Optimisation in the near future. And, you will not even be required to wait long to witness palpable results. SEO gurus have already predicted that 2020 will primarily be the year of Voice Search. With the growth of voice-based search, businesses are poised to adopt a more conversational and natural optimisation approach. Content will offer more direct answers to questions and semantic search will assume a more significant shape.

Local SEO Strategy

Our Local SEO Strategy

The importance and value of SEO are well documented. Local SEO is, however, yet to be fully exploited. In fact, only 44% of businesses have laid claim to their Google My Business local listing. The few who employ local SEO strategies are raking in huge profits. A recent survey shows local searches make up 46% of all Google searches with 78% of all local mobile searches resulting in a purchase. We help businesses, like yours, to enjoy the benefits of all manner of SEO strategies. Our aim is to help you see your enterprise rank high in search engines (Google, Bing, e.t.c) and, online directories (Citysearch, Yelp, e.t.c). Local directory marketing boasts of the highest conversion rates of any advertising tool. The rate is as high as 50% in some popular directories. So, according to the statistics mentioned so far, good local SEO will help you i. Increase the number of visitors to your site. ii. Convert close to half of the visitors into customers.

How Do We Help Your Rankings?

Before working on any business, we usually consider two things. i. Have you claimed your local listings? If the answer is yes, we go to part two below. If it is no, we help you claim the listings. Local SEO begins with controlling your local listings. ii. Does your business have duplicate listings? If the answer is no, we roll out the main SEO process outlined below. In the case of duplicate listings, however, we get rid of the additional listings. Duplicate listings confuse both customers and search engines. The confusion affects ranking and consumer trust. When these two issues are resolved, we roll out the main steps of our SEO strategies.

1. Baseline And Future Goals

We understand just how far good Search Engine Optimization can push a business. The first step is to determine where you rank and where we can take you in about five months. The idea is to rank you as high as possible. Good local listing, for example, exposes you to the 71% of clients who look up businesses before visiting them. One thing to understand is that some unchangeable factors may determine just how far you rank. One such factor is industry centers. When similar businesses in a locality occur clustered together, Google interprets the clusters to be an industry center. The closer a business is to such a cluster, the higher Google ranks it. No amount of content and local SEO strategy may change that fact. The two, however, still guarantee you of better ranking despite the fact.

2. Content Is Still King

Localized content speaks to local clients in a manner they can associate with. Nothing builds trust faster. We carry out extensive keyword research and use our experience with Google’s search algorithms to help your rank. Below are other strategies we employ to help your content convert.

NAP Synchronization

NAP (Name Address Phone) synchronization is another approach we use at this stage. The NAP in your listings should match what you submitted to Google and any other body. Having different NAPs for your business across different forums has the same effect as duplicate listings. Finally, the appearance of NAP on every page of your site also helps content to convert.

Data Aggregators

Data Aggregators are entities that compile data on local businesses from various sources. They rationalize the data to come up with clean and accurate representations of the business environment. The aggregators are important because they are responsible for availing the data to search engines, at a fee. We help you submit your data to aggregators. The result is more control over the type of data available to search engines.

Structured Data Markup/ Schema Markup

Schemas are relatively new SEO advancements. Only 31.3% of websites are using schema markup. They are technical and why you should use an expert for your SEO needs. Schemas are codes that help Google spiders analyze a page quickly. Google algorithms have a preference for sites with the schema. Employing them helps our clients rank higher than their competitors. For purposes of professionalism, however, we only offer our services to one business per category in any given region. This way, we ensure our clients enjoy solid leads over the competition.

3. Encourage Reviews

You can never have too many citations. Reviews form the most important citations. 72% of people trust online reviews. They give them the same validity as a personal recommendation from a trusted friend. The more reviews you have, the better your rank. Good reviews are the main objective. This means that your business should deliver exactly what is promised. We give advice on how to offer services that attract positive reviews. 52% of clients are moved to make a purchase by positive reviews. No matter the importance and value of SEO, product delivery remains key if you are to succeed. Get people talking nice about your business, and more people will come. Our SEO strategies will only bring clients to you, maintaining them is entirely up to your delivery. Good reviews and content will eventually help build your business a vast amount of backlinks. Links back to your site are ranking gold. They improve ranking faster than even the black-hat tricks out there.

4. Continued Health Analysis Of Progress

Finally, when all is in place, we check how well you rank. SEO is a race that more and more people are getting into. You may rank well today and lose the position tomorrow. This fact has led our company to continually assess the progress of clients. It is not always just a matter of improving your ranking. The idea is to maintain the high ranking. Google, for example, continually updates its search algorithms. What works today may not work tomorrow. Our team of experts is always on the lookout for any such developments. This is another reason why you should avoid trusting your computer guy with your SEO needs and why you should use an expert. Finally, the entire process of SEO and local SEO strategies is a long one. The above steps are not meant to highlight the entire process. Instead, it is an overview of the main steps in a way intended to educate and build your confidence in the process.

Keywords What Are they ?

What Are Keywords And How Do They Impact SEO?

What Are Keywords And How Do They Impact SEO?

What are keywords? This is a question many people are asking. Keep reading to learn all about keywords and how then can impact your SEO.

Even if you haven’t learned about SEO first-hand, and can’t answer the question “what are keywords?” you’ve certainly heard the term before. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. Keywords are a way to optimize searches.

Search engines use an algorithm that detects how many of these keywords are in your content. The more you use these keywords, the higher your content will come up in a search result listing. Still need more info? Read on.

What are Keywords?

Keywords are one of many tech trends available to every business, small or large. But, what are keywords? Let’s say you use Google for your search engine. You want to learn about a topic, say, keywords, and you enter “what are keywords?” Well, a lot of other people have done that. Google keeps track of how many people search for every word. Tools for tracking keywords are available. Try Google Keyword Research Tool or Wordtracker. These will give you a sense of specifically what people are searching for. Be aware that as technology becomes more sophisticated, big search engines will be scanning websites for meaning more than for specific words.

Short Tail Keywords

Because your search “what are keywords” is only three words long, that’s called a “short tail keyword.” As you can imagine, short tail keywords are the most-searched. When trying to optimize your page with keywords, remember that the majority of the competition is going to be using the most popular short tail keywords, too. So, if you only use short tail keywords, your website will be one of many using the exact same words. How will your website make it to the top that way?

Long Tail Keywords

A “long tail keyword” is a more specific phrase. Maybe: “explanation of keywords in SEO.” Of course, the more specific a set of words is, the fewer people will enter them in exactly that way. So, the better you know your customers, the more likely you’ll be to find a way of using the long tail keywords that they might search for.

Don’t Overdo it

Please note that you cannot boost your ranking by keywords alone. Your content also has to be readable and informative. If you don’t plan well, you’ll end up with content stuffed with keywords that no one likes to read. Inserting just a few instances of your keyword should be enough to boost your SEO. Because Google scans your content, you can use more varied language, too. This is good news for your readers because you won’t be repeatedly using one word in your text.

The Tip of the Iceberg

What we’ve introduced here is just the tip of the iceberg. If you’d like more information about keywords and SEO (we haven’t even discussed Adwords) give us a call. Many people like to manage SEO themselves or in-house, and that works to an extent. A lot of people try that and discover their business would grow better leaving the SEO to an expert. However you do it, the bottom line is that once your website’s ranking is higher in Google, you should begin to see more traffic on your website. And that means more revenue for your business.

Facebook strategies for small businesses and startups

5 Quick Facebook Marketing Ideas For Small Businesses

5 Quick Facebook Marketing Ideas For Small Businesses

Do you have a relatively new small business or a startup? If so, you need to build your digital brand in order to compete against other more established businesses. Aside from creating a website, you must also take time to make noise in the social web. Facebook is the largest social platform, boasting of over 1 billion users, most of whom log in every single day. This presents an enormous opportunity to get your name out there and promote your products and services to the right target audience. Keep reading for some quick Facebook marketing strategies for small businesses.

1. Take advantage of ad targeting.

Facebook proves to be a powerful marketing tool, thanks to its ad targeting feature. Of course, you don’t want to waste money paying for ads that prospective customers wouldn’t see. By using ad targeting, you can hone in on a very specific audience. For instance, you can target a group of females aged 30 and up living in New York with a keen interest in health and wellness. Targeting your ads ensures that they are seen by the right folks, thus boosting your conversion rates.

2. Use Facebook Offer ads.

Everybody loves coupons! They are a fantastic way of saving money and consumers simply couldn’t get enough of them. Facebook understands this, which is why they provide businesses an easy way to offer coupons on their platform. Facebook Offer ads are a great way to promote discounts and even offer free products or services. You can create unique redemption codes or bar codes which users need to enter or scan and then present in-store to claim the offer.

3. Run a Facebook contest.

When it comes to Facebook marketing, it’s important that you don’t forget to actually socialize with followers. An excellent way to show some personality and get in touch with your audience is to run a Facebook contest. This can be as simple as asking followers to upload their picture while using your product. You can then select a winner and offer fantastic rewards.

4. Create entertaining videos.

By now, you should understand that social media users prefer viewing videos over large blocks of text. Particularly, you want to provide them with short, entertaining videos that get the message across without being annoying or intrusive. This is a win-win for you and your audience. They only need a few seconds to watch your video and you only have to spend a small fortune because short videos are easier to create and edit.

5. Get more personal.

It’s always frustrating when you try to communicate with a business and get an automated reply. It seems as if you’re talking to a robot! Social media users want to talk to a real person, so be sure to respond to all the comments and messages you receive—even if they contain negative feedback. Also, you might want to show some behind-the-scenes images from your everyday operations. Showing your audience that there are real people working behind your products and services can fuel trust, credibility and authority. If you need help with your social media strategy get in touch !

Adwords, keywords & SEO and how it all fits together

As a business owner you need to be able to attract and filter the right customer for your business from the hundreds and thousands searching the internet for products and services just like yours. For small business owners moving from the more traditional forms of advertising can be a daunting experience.  It is much more complex than renewing a Yellow Pages advert.  Add to the mix the barrage of phone calls and emails offering SEO (search engine optimisation) and Google Page #1 rankings, it’s very easy to be misled. So what is a small business to do?  Let’s take a look at the overarching options available and understand them well enough to demand results. The small business needs to attract customers to survive.  But a small business can’t afford to target every consumer, and they shouldn’t want to, they only want those customers who are interested in what they have to offer. To be guaranteed to reach customers straight away start with Adwords.  Whilst you may not always attract the perfect match, and whilst each match will cost you (a paid click), some will be the perfect match.  You can quickly learn how to target adwords more appropriately to attract closer matches to your ideal. In addition to this you need to identify a good variety of keywords to attract your ideal customers.  Again, within a short time you will know which keywords are working for you and your customers. Over the longer term, and not to rely heavily on paid advertising (adwords), you need well crafted, appropriately located and maintained SEO (search engine optimisation). To be successful the small business owner needs to master both adwords and SEO.  Whilst SEO is cheaper than adwords it can take many weeks and even months before any tangible results are seen.  Conversely, relying solely on adwords means that as soon as you stop you will instantly stop attracting customers. Google loves the SME (subject matter expert – that’s you!) and has put in place complex algorithms like Penguin and Panda to keep the playing fields between all players on an even keel.  Devious techniques, generally known as Black Hat techniques, such as spam, duplicate content and link farms etc are all monitored and removed by Google. Remember Google is in the business of providing its users with relevant information that they are searching for.  If users are being given irrelevant or unhelpful information from your site, they will stop using Google and they will migrate to Yahoo or Bing or DuckDuckGo.  If people are visiting your site and turning around straight away (bouncing) Google will start to relegate you to the backwaters in order to keep their customers. To keep people on your website you must have a compelling and relevant landing page.  Future posts will look at landing pages and conversion optimisation.  Don’t want to miss any more posts?  Sign up to our newsletter at the top of the screen.
